“White Space” Audio

Less stress or more results?  Maybe you need BOTH.

Need a place to come up for air during your busy work week?  Constantly feel “behind”?  Got great ideas, but no time left after putting out the fires?  We know!  Many leaders and business owners face the same challenge:  you’re going for it, but your best feels like it’s never enough.

You’ve got so many things coming at you every week, it sometimes just feels like you’re juggling.  The project plan goes out the window when the client needs another meeting.  And e-mail catch-up has you eating at the computer again.

Is this the way you intended to work?

It’s so frustrating to always be playing catch-up, when you know you’re capable of getting out ahead of the projects and the people and truly leading.  Remember that great idea you had for solving the tough problem?  Barely, right, because you haven’t had the space to act on it?  But how are you supposed to get your business and your career to the next level when you’re always feeling so crunched?

We asked ourselves this same question because we and our clients felt like time was our enemy.  It was scarce, it was frantic, and there was never enough room for our work, let alone for ourselves and the clarity that we know always precedes our best work.  But how were we to change it?

How do you get back to clarity?  To feeling successful?

If you’ve ever had a practice that seeped out into the rest of your life, you know the real secret.   Maybe it was spiritual:  You prayed or meditated once or twice a day, but it shifted the whole day?  Or it might have been a physical practice:  pilates changed the way we walk, all the time.  And dancing puts a little spring in our step for days!  For you, maybe it’s a swim or a run.

Maybe your practice was emotional:  a conversation with one person that made you feel safe and loved gave you the resilience to face the not-so-friendly remainder of the world.  A final example of the way a simple practice can seep into other areas:  if you’ve ever refined your diet for just one meal a day, you know the result is that you eat more consciously throughout the rest of the day.

You’ll create satisfaction one hour at a time.

See,  in each of these instances, you didn’t have to change everything all at once.  On the contrary, that’s part of the reason change is so hard:  we bite off more than we can chew, and then we give up.  What if, instead, you could carve out one little spot in your week where you completely shifted your approach to work and to yourself.  Might that experience filter out into the rest of your week?  Might it start a trend?

Productive serenity is catching.

This contagious effect is exactly what will turn your work and life from a blur of busy-busy-busy motion into a clear stream of productive progress, satisfying results, and give you room to savor both the product and the process.  When you start with one hour of practice a week, you soon find your entire week feels different.  We call this contagious practice White Space Time.  It has rocked our worlds and our clients’, and we’d like to teach it to you.

"My first white space was scheduled for Thursday at 2pm.  However, my workload was light, and I had spent most of the day doing routine time-filling tasks anyway, so I decided to cancel my white space.  Funny thing happened, though. Because I had been thinking all day about what I would do with my white space, 3pm rolled around and I started daydreaming and I realized I really wanted to do something fun. So I started researching interesting online classes for the next hour. Ahh…..THIS was my white space.

My second white space was scheduled the day I had chosen to work from home to allow some home repairs to be done (you know…the service people who give you a 4-hour window of when they might show up?)  Unfortunately, a lot of my job duties require me to be in my office, work-from-home days are a little challenging, so I scheduled myself time to read a new organizational book I had bought. I thought that would be my white space. But, honestly, during my lunch break, I started researching places to go away with my girlfriends for my 40th birthday. So, in retrospect, that was really my white space that day.

I’m finding that for a person who plans almost every minute of every day, it’s a little challenging for me to have an hour when nothing is pre-planned.

But I’ve realized this has given my super-logical brain a break.  And we all need a little break, right?  Thanks for the gift of white space!"

A powerful idea, and the support to implement it.

We’re Sara Harvey Yao and Michele Lisenbury Christensen.  As executive coaches, we’re known for helping our clients enjoy more success with fewer side effects.  Our approach is pragmatic, but not-so-linear.  We can take your strengths and turn them into a burnout-proof approach to work and life. In this one-hour audio,  we will teach you how to turn one hour in your calendar into a powerful productivity and stress-reduction tool that’s customized precisely to your talents and needs.

How many books on productivity and time management and stress reduction and goal achievement have you read?  How many seminars have you attended? How many “must-do” practices have you learned – and loved – but you’re not doing them?  White Space is so cool precisely because it gives you room to do what you most need to do.  With our help, you’ll finally implement the tools that work best for you.  And then you won’t care that you’re not doing all that other stuff.

All your questions answered.

Rather than some dry manual on how much more productive you could be, the two of us went into the studio and captured the depth of our knowledge about White Space along with the sass and fun our clients have come to expect from the two of us.  This audio program is like being in a session with both of us (which is a handful… just ask our clients about their Deep Dive 2-on-one sessions).  We help you experience White Space through client stories that amaze even us, specific answers to questions we’re always asked, and a complete walk-through of the White Space learning curve.

Do you need some White Space?

Often when we first start working with clients, they’re raring to be more productive, to expand their business or reach their goals or get a promotion.  But they’re so wound up and tired out that they can’t see past the way they’ve been doing things.  They aren’t yet ready for what’s next because there’s no room for THEM in their work week… and often not at home, either.  That’s why we start with White Space.

If you’re like them, you’re experiencing – occasionally or often:

-          Overwhelm with all that needs doing

-          Frustration with the number of interruptions, changes, requests, and demands

-          Physical symptoms like muscle pain, difficulty sleeping, digestive upset, or headaches

-          Not absolutely loving your work and your life (this is a big one with us:  you deserve to, it’s possible, and you won’t do what you came here to do until it’s happening)

C’mon, admit it.  If we just described you, something’s gotta give.  And of all your options, we know this one is the simplest, most direct route to feeling less overwhelm and more productivity immediately.

Spend this hour with us, and you will understand why White Space makes all the difference for their high-performing clients, and how White Space can give you the relief, the support, and the results you need.  This one practice will improve your own work product, your leadership, and your personal balance, and it’ll do it right away.

"After attending your seminar, I have taken the entire evening each night after my son has gone to bed as “white space.”  Following your direction, I check in with myself and determine what I need to feel better in that moment.  Some times it’s getting work done, sometimes it’s reading a magazine and sometimes it’s just sitting there reflecting.  It’s been very powerful in reducing my stress, making me feel better about life and feeling like I am taking back control of my life.  The time feels like a big body sigh of relief.  This has been so effective in my personal life that as of today I decided to dedicate 30 min of “working white space” time during each work day.  Where I allow myself to do personal or work stuff during my “personal white space time”, my “work white space” will be dedicated to determining what I need to feel better about work in that moment.  I already feel energized and excited.  I know this will be just as powerful.  And imagine,

2 white spaces (and 2 big body sighs) each day!  What a treat!  Your white space idea was the most powerful takeaway I’ve had from any training I have ever attended (I’ve had more than 1000 professional hours of training in my career).  It is a life game changer.  THANK  YOU!"
