Pressure and stress are constant companions for managers in intense environments. A manager who can effectively channel and relieve their own stress, and support others to do so, is an asset to their division and a lifeline for those who report to them.
The real challenge with stress is that it tends to self-perpetuate. Under pressure, many of us are tempted into behaviors and attitudes that exacerbate, rather than relieve, our stress. This program is an insightful, often funny, look at the self-defeating things we do under pressure and how participants can reverse their reaction to stress so that they can be even more productive, but in a sustainable way.
This day teaches participants that stress is not situational – something that happens TO us. We tell participants, “Our work with hundreds of managers has taught us that we create cycles of depletion that perpetuate stress, to the point that it’s hard to tell where the stress started or how to do anything differently.” By teaching them to break that cycle of depletion, this session breaks the self-perpetuating pattern of stress.
Each participant will leave this session able to:
- Recognize their own strengths and challenges in handling pressure and stress
- Identify the symptoms of depletion in themselves and their team
- Create stress-management strategies that work, even when “I have no time”, “this won’t help” and “I don’t feel like it”
- Use a specific tool to leverage others’ wisdom when faced with a challenging situation
- Support others under pressure without taking their stress on themselves
NOTE: These are standard training objectives for this program and can be adjusted based on the client’s particular needs.
Participants and Facilities:
This program is led with two facilitators for groups up to 60 participants.
As an all-day training, it is best led in a room with large round tables to seat six individuals per table in crescents (all facing the presenters). Lunch should be catered into the room by the event organizer. Continental breakfast and table linens are important but optional touches. Working with Power’s full-day event fees include participant materials (workbooks and other special surprises) and supplies for creating atmosphere in the room.
This same topic can also be condensed into a half-day training, in which case the facilities could be somewhat simpler. We will work with you to determine what will best serve your group.
